The use of two types of fine bubble and their application in bathing equipment.

You may have seen terms like "fine bubble", "Micro bubble" and "Ultrafine bubble" in TV commercials for bathtubs and showerheads, but do you know the differences between them? In this article, we will explain the distinctions between each type of bubble and how they are used in bathing equipment.

Two types of fine bubble

Bubbles with a diameter smaller than 100μm (micrometer, abbreviated as "µm") are called fine bubble, a term defined by ISO and JIS standards. fine bubble are classified by their size: bubbles between 1μm and 100μm in diameter are referred to as micro bubble, and those smaller than 1μm are called ultrafine bubble.
Micro bubble appear cloudy and float up slowly in water. As they dissolve, they gradually shrink and disappear.
On the other hand, ultrafine bubble are so small that they are invisible to the naked eye and appear transparent. They do not rise in water and, unless stimulated, they hardly dissolve.

  • Normal bubble (Milli bubble)
Normal bubbles rise immediately after formation and burst upon contact with the water surface, disappearing.

  • Micro bubble
They appear cloudy, slowly rising while shrinking, and eventually disappear after a while.

  • ultrafine bubble
The bubbles are small and transparent in appearance. They are stable and remain for a long time.

Differentiating the use of fine bubble in bathing equipment

In bathing equipment, the use of bubbles is differentiated based on their characteristics.
Micro bubble rise slowly towards the water surface at a rate of about a few centimeters per minute. Many of them are negatively charged, while organic substances like dirt are positively charged. As a result, micro bubble attach to organic matter and rise together to the surface. Due to these characteristics, micro bubble are ideal for "storage-type" bathing systems, and in our products, they are incorporated in the supine bathing system, Lixy, and the seated bathing system, Lilac Plus.
On the other hand, ultrafine bubble are strong and durable, and they do not rise to the water surface. This makes them suitable for "shower-type" bathing systems. In our products, they are incorporated in the seated shower bathing system, Araeru.

Now, let's introduce the benefits of fine bubble (micro bubble and ultrafine bubble).

Benefit 1 Gentle cleaning power

fine bubble, which reach every corner of your skin, gently lift dirt from wrinkles and deep within pores simply by bathing. They also wash away unpleasant odors.

Benefit 2 Heats the body to the core

fine bubble that penetrate the pores of your skin provide a gentle刺激, helping to warm your body to the core.
After bathing, the warmth lasts longer, making it less likely to feel cold. *The following data is based on results from microbubble testing.

  • Comparison of body surface temperature between regular water and microbubble water.
*At a room temperature of 21°C, after bathing for 5 minutes in microbubble-infused water (40°C), the body surface temperature was measured 10 minutes later using infrared thermography.
